Calgary Eye Hospital proudly announces the grand opening of its state-of-the-art Retina Care Unit, a major advancement in eye healthcare for the region. Designed to serve patients with complex retinal conditions, the new facility features cutting-edge diagnostic equipment, expert ophthalmologists, and personalized care programs.
The hospital is facing severe space constraints in OPD due to rising patient load leading to overcrowded waiting areas and prolonged queues in OPD and examination rooms. To address these challenges a 25,500 sq. ft. G+1 expansion is planned, connected by a corridor with existing block. The new OPD block will feature modern amenities, including smart OPD cabins equipped with central air conditioning and fire safety systems. A double-height entrance lobby with spacious waiting area and registration counters is also proposed to enhance patient experience and service delivery. The building will be constructed with NABH norms to enhance the quality of eye care services. The estimated cost of the building is Rs. 10.00 crores. A young patient with a severe defective vision (finger counts close to face) in his left eye due to a firecracker injury sustained a year back, for which he had undergone primary wound repair elsewhere, was presented. Upon examination, he was found to have bullous Keratopathy with diffuse corneal scarring and a retained foreign body in the anterior chamber (confirmed on B-Scan). He underwent penetrating Keratoplasty with the removal of a glass foreign body from the anterior chamber. His vision improved remarkably to 6/18 after surgery.
